The rain is pounding on the metal shelter roof and I couldn't be happier. We were thinking about tenting earlier today when the skies were bright and nearly cloudless. Every few minutes the sky rumbles and then lightning strikes and lights up the sky, illuminating the pines beyond the shelter porch. The rain is absolutely relentless tonight. I feel badly for the folks who pitched their tent nearby - hope they manage to stay dry.
Today was a nice day but it kicked my butt and I'm a little sore. Thats what I get for not hiking while visiting my family. The thing I kept noticing today was the way the air smells... it smells like christmas. We're hiking in beech and pine forests and they smell lovely.
We met up with Swedish and Ottie and Squatter and Swicks (formerly Barking Spider). Its good to see familiar faces. We are all staying at the Goddard shelter which looks very inviting with its large covered porch and spacious sleeping platform. Plenty of room for us all.
Goodnight!
